SWEET FM - HISTORY IN THE MAKING

The Official Booyakka/Sweet FM Biography

In 1993 Essex was bored stupid of cheesey house (pop) music so a group of DJ's set up the now infamous pirate radio station called Sweet FM. All this station played was 'full-on' drum & bass and within weeks of going live had a huge (and loyal) following. All the jocks were local boys who loved there music and were willing to do what ever it took to deliver their sound out to the Essex masses.

Some of the DJ's were quite well known in the scene e.g. Mad Ragga Jon who - who had already self-released some big tunes on vinyl. Along with Keety, who also had had some top beats out on the streets, other names included Stetly, Hardnoyz, Flatliner, Plus 8, SLB, Rufige, Sinister, Bazil, Nut Nut and many others over the three and a half years. Not forgeting the undisputed voice of Sweet FM, the world famous MC Spangler G, who went on to grace the mic full time for DJ Peshay.

Many famous DJ's passed through the station including Dj Hype, Peshay, Nicky Blackmarket, Andy C (that's right), Remarc and Danny Breaks.

On Sunday May 3rd 2009 (Bank Holiday Sunday), Sweet FM hosted the now infamous Booyakka - The Sweet FM Reunion party to celebrate its 15 year anniversary at Katz Club in Basildon. Most of the original DJ's will played 100% Sweet FM classics from '92 to '95 all night, alongside special guests and Booyakka freinds Nicky Blackmarket & Ray Keith. Booyakka - Sweet FM Oldskool Reunion night was the one reunion party that you didn't want to miss.
